With Linux the Export Command Works Fine from the Terminal but Not in Scripts, How Can Scripts Provide the Correct Bash Environment Variables?
Problem scenario
EXPORT works when you use it interactively from the command prompt (e.g., bash prompt). But when you use EXPORT commands in shell scripts, they do not have the desired effect. You have a Linux script that sets environment variables. You do not want to log off your terminal or desktop session after the script runs to get the environment variables. How do you change environment variables via a shell or bash script in Linux without logging off and logging back in?
Solution
Rather than run your script a normal way (bash nameOfscript.sh or ./nameOfscript.sh), use the source command.
source nameOfscript.sh
Variables in a user's environment are different from other users. Shell scripts can be initiated by a given user but the EXPORT commands may not take effect in the shell of that user. To have the environment variables available with every session, modify the .bash_profile file for the user who needs the variables in his/her environment. For example, add EXPORT stanzas in the /root/.bash_profile file. This will give the root user the environment variables on the next time he/she logs in. But remember that he/she must exit as root user at least once for the environment variables to be updated -- or the script must be ran with the source utility (keyword command). It is advisable to back up the .bash_profile file before modifying it so you can rollback in case you do something wrong.
How Do You Update a BIOS on an HP ProBook Laptop Computer When the Directions Do Not Work?
Problem scenario
You cannot update BIOS on an HP ProBook (a laptop) computer. You tried following two different update instructions, but they both failed. You tried using HPBIOSUPDREC (by double-clicking the download file) and "following the on-screen instructions." This resulted in an automatic boot to BIOS just to see an error that says "Unable to open BIOS image file." You tried installing the HP System Software Manager (SSM). But this did not update the BIOS either. What do you do?
Solution
1. Find HPBIOSUPDREC.exe. If you do not know how to find this file, use these instructions.
2. Double click HPBIOSUPDREC.exe. Follow the on-screen steps. It is advisable to make a backup to a flash drive. When you reboot during the instructions, manually enter the BIOS. Press F10 at the HP splash screen to manually enter BIOS. Enter BIOS as a guest. When given the option, choose the left-most button "Apply BIOS Update." Ignore the options for "Postpone" or "Cancel" The next prompt should be self-explanatory.

How Do You Find Files That Were Modified Recently and Have a Specific String in Their Name?
Problem scenario
On a Windows computer you want to find .txt files that were modified within the past four days. Using PowerShell you want to find files in a directory and its subdirectories that were modified within a certain time (within the past four days) and have a pattern in the name of ".txt". How do you search every folder on the computer (or server) to filter files with .txt extensions that were modified within the past four days?
Solution
This solution assumes there is only one drive and it is the C: drive. Run this PowerShell command:
Get-ChildItem -recurse -Path 'C:\' -Filter *.txt | ? {$_.LastWriteTime -gt (Get-Date).AddDays(-4) }
You can change the ".txt" to a different extension. You can change the "4" to a different number of days. The command provides a list of files that meet the two requirements (e.g., has .txt in its name and the temporal requirement of having been modified within the past four days).

Using Linux you try to start the Mongodb service, but the service fails to start. You get this error: "Failed to start mongodb.service: Unit mongodb.service not found." How do you fix this problem?
Solution
Verify you have this file: /etc/systemd/system/mongodb.service
Verify it has this content (with the last line being the "WantedBy=multi-user.target" stanza):
